Instead of joining a casual telescope night at Arodo Loft Bar, a private experience is planned around your group, your location and the sky conditions of the evening.
Private stargazing experiences can be arranged at suitable villas, private residences and selected outdoor locations around Agios Nikolaos, Elounda and Eastern Crete. Each location is considered carefully, because a good stargazing night needs safe access, enough space for the telescope, permission where required, and the right balance between comfort and darker skies.
The experience is designed for couples, families, small groups, private villa guests and special occasions. It can be romantic, educational, relaxed or quietly impressive, depending on the group. You do not need any astronomy knowledge. Curiosity is more than enough.
During the night, we guide you through what is visible in the sky. Depending on the date, weather, Moon phase and season, you may observe the Moon and its craters, bright planets such as Saturn or Jupiter, star clusters, double stars, seasonal constellations and bright deep-sky objects when conditions allow.

Such an amazing hidden gem up the steps from the boardwalk. My partner spotted the Guinness sign and really wanted a pint so we went in on a whim and had one of our favourite nights in Agios Nikolaos, Crete, on our Greece trip.
The staff and owner are so lovely and amazing and an added bonus, the owner brings out a telescope at night and we got to see the surface of the moon, and various other constellations while sipping on Guinness and wine. Could not recommend a spot more.

We are Alkis & Tilemachos
Behind the Arodo Stargazing Project are Alkis and Tilemachos — two people who bring together hospitality, amateur astronomy, scientific knowledge, storytelling and a shared love for the Cretan night sky.

Alkis is the owner of Arodo Loft Bar, the founder of the Arodo Stargazing Project and an amateur astronomer with a passion for the night sky. With many years of experience in hospitality and a strong focus on warm, memorable service, he brings together the setting, the telescope equipment, the organisation and the hands-on care behind each stargazing night. Before Arodo, Alkis was also a scuba diving instructor — so, as he likes to say, he was always meant to be either of the heights or of the depths. From the sea to the stars, his passion has always been about helping people discover something they would not easily experience on their own. At Arodo, he leads the telescope nights from the balcony and guides guests through the introductory experience of observing the Moon, planets, seasonal constellations and bright celestial objects. He also keeps improving the technical setup and equipment, with one goal: to offer guests the best possible version of the night sky experience.
Tilemachos is the scientific collaborator of the Arodo Stargazing Project, bringing advanced astronomy knowledge, research background and a deeper layer of interpretation to selected stargazing experiences. A physicist with a strong background in astronomy and research experience connected to the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy, he contributes to the more in-depth side of the project — especially when an experience moves beyond a simple introduction to the night sky and into more advanced questions about stars, galaxies, distances, cosmic objects and the structure of the universe. While Alkis leads the everyday telescope nights at Arodo and the introductory stargazing experiences, Tilemachos joins as an external specialist for selected advanced sessions, private experiences and special events where scientific depth becomes part of the evening. His world is not only science. Tilemachos is also deeply connected with music and shadow theatre — a performer, storyteller and lover of tradition. When he puts the bouzouki and the shadow screen aside, he looks up, bringing rhythm, imagination and a storyteller’s presence to the night sky.

The Arodo Stargazing Project was shaped around a simple idea: to make the night sky part of the Cretan experience. Some nights are relaxed and introductory, guided from the balcony of Arodo with a telescope, a drink and the view of Agios Nikolaos below. Other nights go deeper, with advanced astronomy, scientific interpretation and special private sessions supported by Tilemachos. In both cases, the goal is the same: to make stargazing feel accessible, beautiful and memorable.
