Discover Stargazing in Agios Nikolaos
One of the most unique night experiences in Crete
Stargazing in Agios Nikolaos becomes a truly memorable experience at Arodo Loft Bar. Located above the harbour with panoramic sea views, our balcony offers a unique setting where visitors can slow down, relax and reconnect with the night sky.
While many people visit Agios Nikolaos for its beaches, restaurants and waterfront walks, fewer discover how beautiful the night sky can be once the sun goes down. On clear evenings, away from the bright lights of larger cities, the Moon, bright planets and seasonal constellations become part of the experience.
At Arodo Loft Bar, telescope nights have grown naturally over the years. What started as a personal passion has become something shared with visitors from around the world. Guests often arrive for a burger, a craft beer or a cocktail and end up spending part of their evening exploring the Moon, asking questions about the stars or simply enjoying the atmosphere of a peaceful night under the Cretan sky.
Whether you are travelling as a couple, with friends or as a family, stargazing offers a different perspective on Agios Nikolaos. It combines the relaxed atmosphere of a harbour-side evening with the wonder of discovering objects that are millions of kilometres away. For many visitors, it becomes one of the most unexpected highlights of their stay in Crete.
What Can You See Through Our Telescope?
Explore the Moon, planets, star clusters and seasonal constellations
The night sky is constantly changing throughout the year, which means every season offers something different to observe. What guests can see depends on weather conditions, visibility and the position of celestial objects on a particular night.
The Moon is usually the most popular target. Through the telescope, visitors can observe craters, mountain ranges and surface details that are impossible to see with the naked eye. Many first-time observers are surprised by how much detail becomes visible when looking through a telescope for the first time.
Depending on the season, bright planets may also be visible. Jupiter, Saturn, Venus and Mars are among the most fascinating objects that occasionally appear in our evening observations. Star clusters, double stars and seasonal constellations can also become part of the experience.
Beyond the scientific aspect, telescope observation creates moments of curiosity and conversation. Guests often gather around the telescope, share observations and ask questions about what they are seeing. This social element has become one of the most enjoyable parts of our stargazing nights.
Every observation session is slightly different, which means no two visits are ever exactly the same. The sky changes constantly, providing new opportunities for discovery throughout the year.

A Different Kind of Night Out in Crete
Craft beer, burgers, cocktails and the night sky above Agios Nikolaos
Arodo Loft Bar combines several experiences into one evening. Guests can enjoy burgers, craft beer, cocktails, shisha and harbour views while also taking part in one of the most unusual activities available in Agios Nikolaos after dark.
Unlike traditional tourist attractions, stargazing creates a slower and more personal experience. There is no schedule to follow and no crowded venue to navigate. Visitors can simply relax on the balcony, enjoy food and drinks and wait for the sky to reveal its highlights.
Our location above the harbour provides a beautiful backdrop for telescope observation. The lights reflected on the water, the gentle atmosphere of the town and the open view of the horizon all contribute to the experience. Many guests describe the combination of good food, conversation and astronomy as something they did not expect to find during their holiday.
For couples, telescope nights often become a memorable romantic activity. For families, they offer an opportunity to introduce children to astronomy in a fun and accessible way. For groups of friends, they provide a unique conversation starter that transforms a normal evening out into something more memorable.
That combination of hospitality, atmosphere and astronomy is what makes Arodo Loft Bar different from a typical bar experience in Crete.
Our Community Stargazing Project
Helping more visitors experience the wonders of the night sky
What started as a simple telescope on the balcony has gradually grown into a community experience shared by visitors from all over the world. Every season, guests leave with photographs, stories and memories of their first close-up view of the Moon or their first encounter with objects they had previously only seen in books or online.
As interest continues to grow, we are working to expand the experience through a community-supported astronomy project. Our goal is to introduce a digital astronomy system that will allow multiple guests to enjoy live telescope views simultaneously, making the experience more accessible and interactive.
The new system will help visitors observe celestial objects more comfortably while also allowing us to share deeper views of galaxies, star clusters and other night sky treasures. It represents the next step in transforming telescope observation from an individual activity into a shared experience for everyone on the balcony.
Every contribution helps bring that vision closer to reality. By supporting the project, guests become part of a growing community that believes astronomy should be accessible, welcoming and enjoyable for people of all ages and backgrounds.
Together, we hope to make Arodo Loft Bar one of the most unique places for public stargazing in Crete.

BRITT
Such an amazing hidden gem up the steps from the boardwalk. My partner spotted the Guinness sign and really wanted a pint so we went in on a whim and had one of our favourite nights in Agios Nikolaos, Crete, on our Greece trip.
The staff and owner are so lovely and amazing and an added bonus, the owner brings out a telescope at night and we got to see the surface of the moon, and various other constellations while sipping on Guinness and wine. Could not recommend a spot more.

Alkis the owner is super nice, we were lucky the evening we went to have a drink his telescope was set on the terrace and we had a look at Jupiter.

MARIELLE
